Eoin Ó Broin graduated in medicine from University College, Dublin in 1990 and began his basic surgical training on the Dublin Surgical rotation scheme in 1992.
He became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1994 and the following year attained a place on the Irish Plastic Surgical Training Scheme. This included rotating through most of the Irish Plastic Surgical Units.
In 1999 he passed the Plastic Surgery fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons – FRCSI(Plast).
In 2000 he did a cosmetic surgical fellowship at the Stamford Hospital in London followed by a 1-year clinical fellowship in St James Hospital in Leeds. The fellowship in Leeds involved training in major reconstruction in particular Microsurgical Reconstruction and cleft lip and palate surgery. This was followed up by a further fellowship in the Royal Adelaide Hospital in Australia and in the Australian craniofacial centre, which also involved further training in major reconstruction and cleft and cranio facial surgery.
