Jagdeep Nanchahal is Professor of Hand, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Oxford. He read medicine in London, undertook his early surgical training in the UK, followed by fellowships in hand and microsurgery in Australia and the USA.

He has a specialist interest in reconstructive surgery of the hand and lower limb and believes passionately in providing the highest standards of care via an evidence-based approach. He was the only plastic surgeon on the NICE Guidance Development Groups for complex fractures and non-complex fractures.

He led the group that wrote the Standards for the Management of Open Fractures of the Lower Limb on behalf of the British Plastic and Orthopaedic Associations, published in 2009. This is an open source guidance to facilitate the care of patients with these severe injuries.
